9th RW

First equipped with the SR-71 Blackbird in 1966 and then in July 1976 U-2's were amalgamated into the 9th SRW. Following de-activation of the SR-71 in 1990 the 9th was re-designated the 9th Wing for a brief period before the taking the present title of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing operating the only the U-2.

At present the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron (Training) under takes the training of new pilots with the 99th Reconnaissance Squadron being actual tasked with the operational missions.

The 5th RS is based at Osan AB Korea and the RQ-4A Global Hawk( UAV) is in the process of commencing operations at Beale AFB with the 12th Reconnaissance Squadron.

The 4 Black Maltese Crosses commemorate four combat operations during WW1 in France.
